Always regularly update your online Deloitte calendar as this is crucial for the preparation of your income tax filings. The calendar is meant to track your working status such as where you are on vacation, home leave, and/or working. You can use the Global Advantage App on your phone if you wish. If your spouse is employed, we may ask you to complete the travel calendar for your spouse’s travel data also.
Why - to ensure you have the information available to correctly determine and provide any relevant income, deduction or travel details for your US tax returns. In addition, you should retain records to support these, in case the IRS may inquire about or audit your tax return and request evidence of any amounts reported. You might also be expected to track and retain these details as part of your employer’s policy.
When - retain records until the IRS is no longer able to audit the relevant tax return - or until any open inquiry has concluded.
We will contact you in January or February and ask you to complete the AboutMe on the GA Portal. This online questionnaire will provide us with information needed to complete your tax return.
You should make sure the AboutMe is completed the end of February/March, depending on the agreement with your employer.
The exact deadlines will be confirmed to you when we contact you to kick-off the tax return process.
Where authorized to do so by your employer, we’ll prepare the US tax return on your behalf.
Following the end of the tax year in January/February, we will contact you to ask you to complete your AboutMe. This is an online questionnaire which, when filled out, should give us all the information we need to complete your tax return.

The sooner you can submit your information, the sooner we can begin your tax return. We will let you know once it is complete so you can review and approve it via the GA Portal.
The filing deadline for the US federal tax return is each April 15th following the end of the prior calendar year. A 6-month extension may be filed to provide additional time to submit your tax returns. State tax deadlines may differ.
Any additional US tax payable should also be paid to the tax authorities(s) by April 15th after the tax year ends.
We will provide instructions for any payments you personally need to make alongside the US tax return. In this case, it may make sense to keep your US bank account open until any payments or repayments related to your tax return have been settled.
